clutch / driving
When I drove my car for the first time a few weeks ago, I noticed that at very slow speeds in first gear, the car would bump quite a bit. If I
modulated the clutch a bit, it would go away. So, are all BECs this way? Is something wrong with mine or is the issue I'm describing the result
of a small flywheel?

Do you mean clunking as John mentions, or "kangarooing" when trickling along at 2mph in traffic? If the latter, thats entirely normal too,
the combination of a light throttle pedal, hair trigger throttle response and no flywheel mean it won't pull the car along at idle under its own
power very well, and the slightest twitch of your right toe means it lurches forward and then the cycle begins with your foot bouncing slightly on/off
the throttle making you look like a learner!
This is one area that the injected R1 is a lot better than the carbs on the blade, it will pull itself along at idle without any throttle applied, and
doesnt suddenly surge when you start applying the throttle.

yeah
its what overcame me when first driveing an car with an bike engine.
Also this is due not have rubbers ont he engine mounts...
I fitted an stronger accelerator spring to make it more controlable..
with the first spring it was or nothing or everything..
Tks
p.d. its indeed true that an injected engine can cope 1000 times better with this kind of problems..
its just that every thing is adjusted and nothing is rigid (the parameters etc..
The above comments are always meant to be from the above persons perspective.

I have the same problem on my brothers zx12r it really kangaroos at low speeds/revs.
should i change the sprig on throttle to help?????
my blackbird is realy good on the raod drives just like a car and pulls from any revs, very easy to drive in traffic, but the 12 is hard work unless
at full chat.
sorry to ask ? on your link

A stronger spring will probably help, as would a small foot /heel rest as the main thing I found was my foot started bouncing around on the floor etc.

as chris says, a foot rest might help, or more throttle travel. I find mine very undrivable slow, painful ankles holding off the throttle, much harder
to change gear when pootling about etc. Much more fun flat out, but not ideal for the license.

Thanks gents. Yep, 'kangarooing' is a great term for the issue I'm having. Sounds like it's normal then and a function of the
BEC.
Also, when I shifted into gear, there was a very noticeable clunk and the car slightly jerked forward. I've since adjusted the clutch cable to
allow more clutch movement. Am I right in thinking there will be a noticeable 'event' when shifted into gear, but the car should not
lurtch forward? I haven't driven it since and it's currently in bits for final assembly.

a small roll forward is caused by the transfer of momentum, the bits in the gearbox that are spinning are suddenly stopped when you put it in gear, in
a light car this can cause it to jump a little. Mine does that, but only if i do it fast, if i put it slowly into gear i just get a little noise.

go learn to ride a bike and the instructor will tell you to slip the clutch when manouevering at low speeds.
there's a reason why almost all bikes have wet clutches.

My TZ250 has a dry clutch. I replace the two outer friction plates approximately every four race meetings!
