AFAIK the only reason people cut it is when it otherwise wont fit under the bonnet even when turned upside down. Never tried turning it round though as there's no way it would fit on mine regardless, so its possible it wouldnt fit if you just turned it round

Hacked mine today, turned it around and it still fouled the bonnet.

Took off the air temp sensor and binned the thing, I'll need a sausage filter, there's another 90 quid gone.

you will find that if you look carefully inbetween hole 3 and 4 there is a slightly bigger gap so obviously when turned 180'
its all wrong so you need to turn it and rest it on top

then draw inside the airbox with chalk which areas need jigsawing

then silicone sealent the gaps

For a 2002/3 airbox you can simply turn it around - it has even port spacing unlike the 98-2001 models.

The air intake will be now very close to the crank so not ideal for picking up nice cool air. On mine, I took out the rubber intake duct and repositioned it on the upper half of the airbox. You will need to blank off the original hole. I then feed some cool air via some flexible tubing to the intake (3" diameter tubing fits over the intake rubber quite nicely).

You could alternatively figure out some nice ram air duct directly to the new inlet. Might do that at a later stage.

Cheers

Paul

air box

paul thats what ive done yesterday. i needed to get it sorted so yesterday morning i started to mess around with it and chop it here and there. it fits well under the bonnet with room to spare so im even thinking of lifting my engine up a little more so i have more ground clearance.
