then suddenly takes off

Im more interested than anything if anyones got any ideas

mine bogs down unless I give it loads of revs. From about 5000 onwards it really goes but pull away at 2000 and floor it and not much happens until 5000

That'll be the 4-5.5k flat spot. My old carbed motor used to do that. No matter what I did to the jetting (incl full rolling road setup) it seemed to bog down unless I launched at 8-9k. Particularly if 2up with sticky tyres and LSD. The FI motor doesnt have this flat spot. So lights the tyres up very easily. Downside is that you eat your rear tyres up a lot quicker

Normal health warning for RR data which I always take with a pinch of salt.

With the carbed motor 132rwhp which tied in with approx 150-160 at the crank.

Havent had the FI motor RR'd yet but guess it would be slightly lower as I have retained the airbox. This is offset by the improved torque spread.

Just curious as to whether you retained the airbox on your carbed motor Jim?

And ZxrLocost? Do you use the airbox?

The only reason I ask is because the R1 I've ridden certainly didn't have a flat spot at 4 - 5k and whether it has more to do with removing the tuned inlet lengthes (trumpets) and static mass of air.

Any chance you ran the FI motor without the airbox to see if this flat spot still existed?

Chris.

Hi yes I have the airbox and there is no flatspots at all just power right through all the gears

it only happens if I bog down in 1st when trying to do a quick pull of but dont quite get the revs right it runs rough then suddenly at about 5k it takes off

its not bothering me I was just inquisative

if i do a good pull off its superb

PS mine isnt a flat spot it was more like running on three cylinders kind of rough until it picks up then takes off

and it only happens if I try to do a MEGA launch and bleep it up

its just weird

TTS foam filter and jet kit on the Carbed R1. A few others have experienced this flat spot when running Foam filters and TTS kit. Once over 5.5kish it went like a b**tard

I've only run my Inj R1 motor with the airbox. I ebayed my carbs and TTS filter.

Coose - ur a lucky man then. Or is that with the flatslides? Are you running an LSD ? I think mine gave so much grip off the line that it dropped the revs too much and it balked. Just a change of driving style required (ie complete lack of subtlety)

zxrlocost - very strange symptoms seem similar to mine.

- Jim

Open diff and the flatslides are still in a box in my garage!

Mine grips like a monkey up a rubber tree when booting it from standstill, so i dunno if the lsd would make that much of a difference?

Hearing how well these things go makes me really want to pull a sickie for the next 4 weeks and finish the build!

Thanks for the replies.

I'm going to try to retain the standard airbox and trumpets for a little less induction noise and hopefully a flatter torque curve. Maybe a little less top end than with radiused inlets and pancake/sausage/custard (?) filter but I'm really trying for the most driveable/tractable car I can build.

Ta again,

Chris.

Would it have anything to do with R1 gearing, my mates R1 bike pulls 85 in 1st, 110 in 2nd, thats a tall first gear, now add the gain in weight from being in a car........
