how much oil needs a fireblade ?

Hi,

I filled up my 1999 fireblade after changing the clutch springs, in the hanynes manual they say you need 4 to 4,5 liters of oil but even when i did 4,5 liters in it there was no oil in the small glass where you can check the oil levell.

And no there is no oil under the engine

Assuming you've put in into the right hole....

It may need a couple of cranks to get it circulated - then refill as necessary.

The Manual is only a guide....

Yep

I've owned/worked on quite a few Honda's......all the ones i've had specify filling up with the book ammount, then start the engine and warm her up WITHOUT revving or riding/driving for a few minutes, kill the engine and check the level immediately, then top up as necessary. Bit wierd, but if you follow all the Honda rules for serviceing they generaly bullet proof....awesome motors, even if the prices for parts are tied to the price of gold

Yeh but cranking around the engine will if anything DROP the oil level on the sight glass, because more oil will be around the engine and less back in the sump. In this instance its not even on the sight glass before doing this, so cranking it over will only drop it further

If you sure you've put a full 4.5L in, are you sure its not actually gone over the sight glass? When the oil is clean its not immediately obvious whether you're looking at fresh air or fresh oil, especially if the sight glass is a bit grubby and/or in an awkward place to look at down in the engine bay.

Are you also sure that the engine is sitting perfectly level, both in the chassis and on the ground?

Chris

The engine is perfectly level, but i don't know if the level could be above the glass, i don't think that is the case because the glass looks clean.
And i'm sure there's 4,5 liters in it.
Well i shall check it when i start the engine without the ignition on.

And about the filling hole for the oil, those are the four holes on top of the engine ?

Thanks, for the help.

Try gradually jacking up the front of the car whilst watching the sight glass, if the level is high and above the glass, then at some point you'll see the oil level drop past the sight glass. If that doesnt work or you're convinced it still low, you could also try jacking the back of the car to bring the level up to the sight glass to double check.
