Gearing Advice needed
Well,
some may remember i´m building/buying a selfmade reductor.
since it also can have a readuction i needed to know what would be the best reduction for my car/engine combo.
The engine isn´t ordinary powerfull together we are only light.
Tyres: 195/45/R15
Diff: 3.96LSD (2.0 XRi4x4)
i know that including the prop angle it had it pulled like a rocket.
Now i have choosen yesterday in a hurry
2 pinions 18teeth and 15 that would result in a 3,3Diff would this still pull?
or would it be to hard on the clutch?
3,52?? (18/16)
or 3,7 (18/17)
3,56 could be archieved by using (20/18)
Well since the sprockets are cheap i will just try a couple i guess..
My feeling was that 3,96 was way unther geared for my engine the primary ratio looks like more then one wishes... (hayness doesn´t mention it)...
Anyone can say something usefull?
Wheels could maybe be changed but prefferable not.
i want a gearing that i can do top gear with out hitting the rev limiter.
also cruse speed is important for me.
but offcourse i still need acceleration to keep up with the rest
Tks

Sorry TKS, I dont understand your calculations regarding ratios. But i can give you a comparison of diff ratio swaps, as iv'e recently changed
from 3.62 to 3.14
In practical terms it's made no difference to setting off, no need to slip the clutch at all.
Acceleration is still very good, it just holds longer in each gear. Cruising is more relaxed. Only negative is you need to drop a cog or two before
overtaking. I should maybe add that as well as changing the diff i swapped from 15" wheels to 13", although the overall diameter is not
much different due to the higher profile.
