Hillman Imp BEC
Hi
Im thinking of a BEC you could use rain wind or shine..
the minis been done and I know the Imp has been discussed before
slammed to the deck with 13" superlites etc front splitter etc etc
and with some thing like a zx12r engine
I think this would be absolutely wicked
has anyone seen one done
the car weighs 725kg
you could soon knock a load off that I reckon so with a slightly bigger bike engine it shouldnt hang about
any ideas on the drive anyone without spending silly money
would the engine be able to go in the same kind of position??
someone mentioned about old style suspension and brakes being crap which i would upgrade anyway
I thought these and minis were the best handling cars this side of a seven???
which other engines would be good Id like a carb engine tbh
I was using the zx12r as a example over a bigger engine but not such a price as the busa etc
thanks chris

Here is a bike engined imp, not road legal but doesn't look like it would take much to get road legal
It uses a slightly bored FZR engine, the forerunner to the R1
I think the space behind the driver to the wheels is even tighter than the mini, so the odd imp I've seen like this is struggling for space
behind the driver
Cheers

Like this one?
I've uploaded a pic of an R1 engine in an Imp into my Photo Archive.
I'm sure it was for sale on Pistonheads a little while ago. There was another pic, but i can't find it.
It shows it's possible, so i'd say go for it!
BTW - it's rear engined, were you going for mid-engined?
HTH,
Adam.

It's great to see people doing different projects, but why put so much weight on what other people think you should do? In your original
post you even allude to the fact that since a Mini's "already been done" so you shouldn't build one. Why? Why prevent
yourself from doing something you want to do, all because of vanity?
Where is it written that everything has to be absolutely novel, never existing before? Just build whatever you want, screw what's out there...
Who's in charge of your project, you or strangers who happen to have done something similar before?

its nothing to do with that mate
every car Ive had has always been rare so i want to stick that way i personally prefer the imp to the mini..
its all very well saying just do it anyway but theres no way Im pissing about building spaceframes etc for £4000
it aint worth it
so i was seing if it had been done before its a lot of money still to mess around with

I see you found the imp club!
There's a pic of a k-series imp on there done the same way (i.e. longitudinally just inside the rear bumper).
Must have some sort of transaxle.
Flipping a normal sierra / freelander diff over makes sense.
If i'm right, (and it's making my brain ache!) you'll still be turning the diff the 'right' way, so there won't be
problems of driving gears 'backwards', so you'll only need to solve issues of oil filling / draining as the drain hole / fill hole
will now be on the bottom. Must be pretty easy to solve though. Block the hole and make a new one?
You'll have stunning traction! Put the fuel tank, rad, battery, etc under the front and you'll balance the weight up a bit, you in the
middle grinning, perfect!
You might also get away from the deafening noise a lot of these bike-engined mini owners talk about, as the engine's not quite 'in the
car' with you!
It sounds great, i'm quite jealous!
Adam.
