Hayabusa Sprocket

Simple question really....how the hell do I get it off??

Obviously a 32mm nut to undo, is it just a question of brute force and ignorance? Or is there something else to remove/relieve first?

Ta!

Done that, but it wont shift. Using a Makita 14.4v impact wrench, maybe its just not man enough......

they are a bugger to get off in general. I got the first one off an engine, now i need one off a new engine and its stuck like STAB.... very hard when its not in the bike. My impact driver did nothing, and a long bar had too much leverage to stop the engine spinning.

I seem to remember that it was just a nylock nut and the speedo sensor thingy - i undone it when it was still in the bike so that may explain why it was easyish...

OK, think I see the problem. Torque on the nut is, (or should be!), 145nm. The Makita only knocks out 140nm at best, so on a 32mm nut its probably a lot less.

Have to think again on how Im gonna get it off!

A proper air impact wrench is what you need really, if youve got the air capacity it should kick out well over 200ftlb.

Alternatively Halfords sell a 12v fag lighter impact wrench for about £20. It doesnt work in the same way as a normal impact gun in that it seems to have some kind of centrifugal weight in it and it spins up for 2-3 seconds before giving a single "impact", then repeats this process. Its not great for speedy work like wheel nuts but my one does seem to give the nut a fair old whack and I think it claims something like 200ftlb release torque so might do the job.

BTW iiyama, I only live about 30 miles from Southampton (near Bordon) and work at Hook on the M3, so if you want to pop up and borrow it to give it a try you're more than welcome.

I actually live in Lindford which is a mile or two away from Bordon (thankfully )

Ive also got an compressor and air impact wrench so if you really get stuck you could always put the engine in the back of the car and bring it up one weekend.
