Your brakes will be fine, and I use between 60 to 80 litres of fuel on a average track day.

Q1 wouldn't change them if in good nick.

Q2 Loads, depending on how much track time you get in and how big your tank is. I usually fill up the car, and take a couple of 5 gallon jerry cans for top ups.

As others have said, brakes will be fine, you can do complete trackday seasons with a BEC and not go through a set of pads!

Onto fuel, you won't need anything like 60-80L with a stock blade BEC unless you're literally on track every minute of the day.

For a sessioned day (20mins / hour - 6 or 7 sessions) I used to fill the tank which is just over 20L, then take another 20L jerry can which easily saw me through the day. With the R1 I use a bit more, needing another half a jerry can so maybe 50L overall. A friend's Busa will easily go through 60L+ on the same events though.

An open pit day you'll rarely end up doing much more in reality, much more than 20-25 mins per hour gets very tiring so 40-50L will be ample for your first day.

Yes a very friendly enviroment, usually staged in 15min intervals, the track official is sometimes C of C in 750 club meetings. definatly take some spare petrol as the nearest is some 6miles away

Paul... that's YOUR average track day, which is not like anyone elses trackday... your right foot is like lead!!!

Sorry Chris but Paul is right... 60-80 litres is right for him, I was sat by him on some of those laps!

Hi Steve

I wasnt saying Paul's figures weren't correct for him, just saying it wouldnt be the case for a standard carbed blade

I would still be concerned there was a big hole in my tank if I was using 80L on a trackday unless its already turbo'd though, assuming you do at most 150 miles on a good day, that's about 8mpg!

I'm with Chris on this one. If she's using that much fuel she's not a well baby.

8mpg ?? A blade should only be using half that amount. Unless towing a caravan

I assume from Paul's avatar that his is a turbo'd ZX10 which would explain it's liking for Optimax, or is that car / engine still in the pipeline?

Yeh, open pit you could obviously do 200+ miles in a day if you wanted to I guess, but its still some going.

Say an average trackday is 7 hours long, 3 hours on track time at full tilt would probably take you those 180-200 miles on most tracks (assuming 60-70mph average lap), but that still going to be pretty much 30 mins on including warmup/down lap, 30 mins rest, non stop all day, which is pretty tiring and very often would be a real struggle anyway due to pit lane queues, the odd stoppage which is bound to happen, and any minor mechanical repairs / servicing you may need to do.

I can also see how a demo car on an open pit can rack up miles because there will be various people driving it so it could in theory just come in for fuel / new driver and head out again, I just don't think too many people do that on a regular basis in their own car with just themselves driving, and even more so on their first trackday when they are going to be getting used to the car and not fully up to speed.

cheers

Chris
