Blade fuel pump orientation

Which is the inlet and which is the outlet port on a carbed 'blade fuel pump? (i.e. say with the ports facing you?)

I don't remember tyere being any markings, safest way I guess would be to test it, power it up and pump some liquid to be sure?

So, to confirm, looking at your picture, Shortie, the braided fuel line is the one going to the carbs and the rubber line with in-line filter is the one going to your fuel tank?

I know if you look at mine face on with the wires on top, the inlet is on the right, outlet on the left

Edit: um bugger i wonder if mines connected up wrong as it looks wrong by that pic, ive definatly had it pumping though and iirc their is a one way valve in the pump so its not as if i could of connected the power on the wrong way round!

I suspect it does not matter which way round it is fitted.

I bet it does....

Can't you power it up (pp3 9v battery if not fused) and just feel which tube is sucking and which is blowing???

Its actually wired into the loom and so does operate when the ignition switch is turned on.
Even so, I've dangled a piece of tissue paper in front of each port to see which way it flutters but there's no discernible movement, even though the pump's buzzin' away like a good 'un.
Could it be a case of the pump needing to be primed with fuel first before it effectively works?

yup, you will feel nothing till you prime it.

Rather than having fuel spraying out all over my engine bay, is it ok to use a small quantity of water (albeit very briefly) to prime pump to determine inlet and outlet ports or would it damage the pump?
