Turn engine over
I purchase my bike engine 4 months ago and its sat idle in the garage since then. Hopefully I will get it fitted within the next month. I'am
just a bit worried about it being sat for so long without being turned over, If I wired up the starter motor would I be able to crank the engine a
couple of times to help keep it free? There is no fuel system plumbed in either. Would this do any damage?

Pour/squirt a wee bit of light oil into each bore. Leave overnight, just to be sure, then try turn it by hand. Put it in gear and try turning the
sprocket/adapter first, or a quick flick of the starter to see what happens. If it doesn't turn straight away don't keep trying the
starter as you'll knacker it.

Personally I wouldn't... most of the damage to an engine happens during starting and when cold. Turning the engine over when not starting it
seems a good way of just creating uneccesary wear....
Also- what state is the oil in? If its whatever was in the engine when you bought it, it might be mostly iron filings which would make the situation
even worse......
I'd just leave it until you need it (making sure the carbs or inlets (if no carbs) are well covered etc....
If you must do something why not drain the old oil out of it then poor some nice new fresh stuff in from the top and let it trickle down and re-coat
everything.... it'll be ready for when you want to start it in a month too!!!!

You should turn the engine by hand every couple of months with the plugs out and some oil in the cylinders. I also spray wd40 into the inlets and
exhaust ports so that the valves don't rust.
Best to give it and oil change very soon after restarting.
I don’t like storing engines without oil in the sump as the oil pump will empty over time and can take a bit to fill back up. Remember to operate the
clutch as well so it does not stick.

I think your worrying too much
Four months is not a great time, so assuming it was up and running when taken out, then I would'nt mess about, just get it in the car get it
running, then do an oil change once you've got it running.
