Hot cdi and no spark

I've got all my wiring done now, thought i would see if i had a spark.
Tried a spare spark plug, no spark, i crossed the start/stop switch, red to brown/white, so took out the brown/white, tried again, no spark, but when i put the brown/white wire back in ,a spark, so as i touched the brown/white to the red i got lots of sparks, but no spark when permanently spliced, also, a hissing noise, coming from my cdi unit, and it got very hot, please dont say i've buggered that as well, help please.
Brad

Yes, i do have a wiring diagram, but theres not alot to change, i've spliced the stand switch, and the clutch switch, a feed from position two on ign to start stop switch, connected start/stop wires together, 100ohm resister between brown and white, on original ignition, then fed the car loom ignition to the starter relay, the only thing i can think of , is the wiring at the start/stop switch.

On the wiring diagram, there is two switches, one stop switch, and one start switch, these are fed buy three wires, red wire and brown/white to the stop switch, and red and black/red to the start switch, i have just jumped the red to the brown/white, is this correct.
