R1 Ratio's.... Got the Wrong Diff - Any Suggestions?
I have a 2006 R1 engine, no reverse box, 3.21 diff (Freelander), and am running 22.0 / 7.0 / 13 ACB10's on the rear.
So, thanks to Chris's Excel gizmo, I've established that I'll get:
69.9
85.9
100.6
116.4
129.9
139.7
Not the best really!
I'm guessing that's going to be a pig to drive.
B*gger - really annoyed about this as I was encouraged to go for the Freelander Diff by someone who should know better, so have coughed up £750 to buy
a new one and Quaife ATB!

Any suggestions for a higher ratio diff? Doesn't have to be Ford as I'm willing to adapt driveshafts to suit. Must be LSD though.

I dont have the ratios for the 06 engine, but as cossey has listed them for you, you can pump them into the spreadsheet (in my avatar below)

Id say 1st is a bit long which will make it a PITA to pull away, and unless you've got an enclosed body car (Phoenix / Fury etc) then you
won't hit 140mph, not without a tail wind and downhill anyway!
The problem you have is that the Freelander only comes in that ratio I think, so you might need to change to a Sierra. Could you not go down to 21 / 7
ACB10s though?

I have a 3.14 diff on a '98 R1 & pulling away is not too bad (admittedly I'm not the fastest off the line). Traffic is a bit of a
'mare though esp. an uphill queue to lights/roundabout.
I also have all the mechanics on rubber and a donut in the prop so I can get a bit of kangarooing, esp. when cold & I'm trying to go slow. I
can only get round this by driving like a tool, which gets a bit wearing!

I have a 3.38 diff in my 2002 R1 and in my mind it's perfect but not an LSD. You can quaife ATB it though.

04-06 engines have a slightly higher first gear than our earlier engines as well though, overall ratio for an 02 R1 is 3.95:1 compared to 3.83 for the
06 (~3% higher), and also have slightly less torque than earlier engines below about 7k which also won't help matters.

By those calcs I would just stick a 3.62 in which will give you a max at close to 125 and a very reasonable 62 mph in 1st. The 3.62 sierra diffs are
common as muck even LSD versions and at least you can be out driving rather than waiting for a 3.38 to materialise. If and when one turns up it si an
easyish swap if Lobro'd
And like Chris says you may struggle to pull much more than 130 without some aero mods.

its about 5.5 MPH/1000 RPM which isn't too bad. You can pull away well enough on that but you'll not have to be too timid.

Hi Scootz
I would personally put in what you have and swap it out later if your not happy. I guess it depends on what you are using the car for but you have all
good new bits so try them first.
I have and '06 engine and the ratios are a bit shorter than the 04-05. I have a muffett diff so I can change the ratio easily but I have run a
2.76 and it was ok. I run dunlop slicks which are 215/45/13 on the ratio chart.
There is a lot you can gain by spending a bit of time with your clutch pivot. Initially the car was a pig to get going but by moving the pivot closer
to the pedal and fitting a clutch stop so that I could get more feel as to when the clutch would take up it transformed the car.
I have also ironed out a few bugs with the 'o6 engine so if you have any dramas give me a hoy.
