AFR reedings. need some input
Got myself an Innotive LC-1 AFR meter. Bought it so when the turbo conversion is done i can tune the carbs on my CBR1000 engine.
But i have put it on that engine at the moment to get a reading to compair it to.
But im unsure what the reading is telling me. i took it out last night for a blast and found once the engine was warmed up at full throttle i was
getting an AFR of arounf 8.9-9.9 !. Do i need to lean my carbs out as this seems silly rich?

Did you calibrate it in fresh air first or just fit it?

There are a set of calibration instructions to follow outside of the exhaust initially.
That does look a little rich - Stoich is 14.7 to 1, however lots of factors affect Stoich - such as the 'extras' they put in petrol etc -
but rarely does it go below 14.1
I'd try recalibrating and seeing how you get on initially

i calibrated it as per the instructions in the garage on the workbench. It runs about 16-19 on part throttle and 24 (max) on overrun.
Might take the laptop out next time to record it.
Sorry about my spelling, im an engineer and only work in numbers.

Hi mate,
Yeah do a decent run with a range of driving styles - smooth, ragged, on/off pedal etc - and try and build up a decent profile.
My mate had no end of problems with his LC-1.
The LC-1 forums are often quite helpful though
Good luck

Hi,
I have an LC-1 permantly installed in my car with the output connected to a DL-90 logger. It works perfectly.
Ensure that there are no leaks in the exhaust first (although if there is it will read lean)
Best power at full throttle is usually around AFR 12-12.5, depending on the engine. 9 is quite rich and will probably loose a fair amount of power.
I choose to use lambda and usually see 0.85-0.95 which is about right.

I wouldn't worry too much about overrun as it is good to run weak then. 16:1 is good for cruise but 19:1 sounds far too weak.
9:1 is much too rich even for full throttle. You will be using loads too much fuel and losing power. Ideally you want to be no richer than 13:1.
Summer's here!!!!

my exhaust is a push fit item that does leak, but like you have said if its effecting the reading its the wrong way.
'IF' the readings are correct is it easy to ajust bike carbs to run leaner?

have you got any other sensors running? i have only got the digital gauge but like the option of laptop recordings with multiple sensors.
