Exhaust change, retune?

I bought a modded carbon R1 can off a member here as my current can is a straight thru jobbie and way too loud for any track.

I had to cut down the R1 can by about 2" off the front chamber to get it to fit, not too hard but plenty of time spent on it. I did this so i could swap the 2 cans when i wanted and also the fact i have nearly finished a turbo install which has the inter section already made for the old can.

I trial fitted the other day and just warmed the engine up in the garage, its so much quiter.

But i need to know if im going to have to change the jets of my CBR1000F every time i change cans? What are the effects of having a much more restricted can on the fueling? will test drive it this weekend to see how its effected power. But am i likely to damage anything?

Cheers.

IMHO, if it's jetted with the free flowing performance can on, then you put the quite one on it may run a bit rich, but it won't hurt it.
Better that than the other way round which could run it weak, which is potentially more damaging

I did a similar thing for noise, changed micron race can for standard gixxer can. Ticked over fine once I'd adjusted idle, revved okay on the driveway but as soon as I gave it any real beans on the road it would choke, stutter and not pull at all.

It may have been that it was running a bit rich with the old can anyway so the effect was exacerbated, but it was very noticable that it wasn't right so I got it re-jetted on the rollers.

So in theory I'd say yes you will need to. However if you can get a spare set of carbs cheap from somewhere, you could have one setup for each can - swapping carbs is a lot less messy than re-jetting every time!
