I'm starting to gather components to eventually build a aires locost with a R1 engine.
What I have so far is the engine
Tomorrow morning I will be going to a scrap yard to dismantle a sierra. I while be removing the rear axle, the steering column and that's about
it.
Do you remenber anything else I should remove will I'm at it???

If you plan to use the sierra clocks then it maybe worth grabbing the fuel sender from the petrol tank.

Well I am thinking about buying an aftermarket dash later on.
I will be using cortina front uprights.
Handbrake - check
Fuel sender - check
Anyone else?
I would only bother with the sender if using the sierra clocks, I'd get the proper sender for the clocks you choose later in that case.

Diff , drive shafts ,front and rear brakes , switches steering rack???
The front brakes work on the cortina uprights?

Don't lose or break the little plastic bit that cancels the indicators on the column, I did (lose it) and it was murder finding another sierra to
rob one off.
The fuel sender will work on Acewells and the like AFAIK, so it's worth taking, even if you bin it later on.
Don't forget the plastic shroud for the column either.
If it's got mint plastics inside, like the centre bit with the door opening diagram on it (or time clock) etc, it's worth taking them as
they are worth £10-£15 a piece from the Cossie boys on ebay. I sold all the pi55y bits of my donor on ebay for loads of dosh. I even had £15 for the
heater motor.

Yep, good call on both halves of the steering shrouds, they go for big money on ebay I've noticed.
So far:
Rear axle
Steering column and shrouds
Handbrake
Fuel sender
I'm in Portugal so it isn't that easy to sell every little bit on the web... I better stick to what I really need. I can get thoses bits for
you if you like but you would have to pay the shipping, don't know if it would be worth it for you.
get the propshaft if your getting someone local to modify it for the bike, and try not to bother with the clocks as there is no where to put the speedo cable as it fits on the gearbox and your using a bike where the speedo is fitted on the front wheel, you colud also use a mk2 escort column, it fits straight on with no extra brackets but still needs shortening! for the handbrake cable try and get one of steve or ask him wich one to use, i bought one for the sierra and had to chop it and mess around with it to much!!
Do not forget the little clips that hold brake flexible pipes to the brackets.
Take every nut, bolt and clip you have to take off when you dismantle the donor
As a side note I would also loosen the hub nuts while its on the car as they are very tight, you'll need a long crack bar and 42mm socket, one of
them is also a left hand thread, something is saying that they tighten pulling the crack bar to the front of the car which would say that the left
hand side has the left hand thread but I'm sure somebody with a better memory than mine will confirm.
