Renault Fuel Filler Cap Locked!

Having seen several other messages on other forums, just wondered if anyone here has experienced the Renault locked fuel filler cap problem.

Filler cap (Modus) is locked closed by vertically mounted solenoid. Solenoid does not open, even when key fob is operated close to said filler cap. After much fiddling about, exceedingly stretched temper, muttered curses etc., succeeded in getting solenoid pin out of engagement.

Wife's car, and she doesn't care for my planned fix, i.e. taking junior hacksaw to plastic loop inside filler cap, thereby sidestepping s***ing sticky/non-responsive solenoid. So it looks like a visit to Renault Spares dept. to buy new solenoid.

Has anyone been down this route? Changing the solenoid, that is!

Can you not just get access to the solenoid and disconnect it?

Do a quick ebay search on Renault filler solenoid or Reanult Fuel Solenoid.

Yep we change loads on modus and clio's - part number is the same. there used to be a pull handle on the solenoid to manually release but they did away with it.

You will have to remove part of the inner trim on the o/s of the boot to get to the solenoid.

PM me your reg and I will get you a decent price on a replacement part.

Yep - did that prior to posting, hence my initial comment. Found several fellow-sufferers, and absolutely no worthwhile fix.
The manual assist tab seems to have been deleted, as indicated by prawnabie. Whose offer is much appreciated - will be in touch.

Re-read British Trident's post. E-Bay search came up with only 1 match. It was used item. Wife wants new part.
