'scuse me...can I photograph your engine?

Yep, that's what I said today while filling up.

For those who haven't seen one this is Cadillac's Northstar engine, 4.6 litre all alloy 4 cam 32 valve 275 hp standard...

Very nice transverse mid-engine unit methinks....hmmmm...

The Northstar is THE new engine for off-road and custom cars. They were over produced, and as a result, crate motors are available extremely cheaply.
They're a glorious bit of light weight kit, and produce admirable amounts of hp and torque. There are quite a few tuning specialists popping up already, with some awesome parts, such as CDIs, cam covers, headers, turbos etc.

Didn't I see one of those in a Delorean a while back:-)

Actually there are a couple of them in the USA if I am not mistaken.

Heard of a guy who owned a (slow) Delorean and was driving around with a friend in some big V8 mussle car. Stopped at a stoplight and a Delorean stopped next to him. So he sais to his friend, owh their slow, lets make him sorry.. So they do a sprint. Delorean wins offcourse. So guy is amazed.

Later he finds out it's one of those Deloreans with a nice engine swap. Not sure but I think that was a northstar in there.

But for sure, amazing engines:-)

This powerplant is being successfully transplanted into the Fiero as well. Using the stock fiero 5 Speed Getrag unit. This is a transverse mounted setup. Isn't THAT convenient?!

I have been drooling over the idea of this engine in my middy for... well, since I started thinking about home-built middies!

It's still not cheap, like lo-cost...

A northstar went on ebay.com a bit back for $2K, complete with trans and ancillaries, still like steve g says, not locost, definately not locost in europe when you have to add the cost of import too.
Ill stick to a blown rover v8 for now being poor *sniffle*
