Here is one for you drifters.

I need an engine in the 500 bhp class.
It will be put in a 1300 kg car. RWD ofcourse.
I DONT want supercharger or turbo.

Not a drifter, but it has to be an LS3 or LS7 as you'll not find much else that's in the 500bhp class without forced induction.

LSx engine is about your only choice if you dont want it blown. Very little work to get 500 hp but it will have heaps of torque. lots of tuning bits and one already in BDC owned by MPH Customs. Craig at Dyno torque has lots of experience and he has put on in most cars it seems, including several RX7's M3, Z3 TVR to name but a few. His own car has over 1000 hp at low boost!

Dunno but my cousin drifts beemers and has a firm that prepares them. They use the big engined beemers. See here for more info

Last drift car I saw on the rolling road had a lexus v8 in it. Nice and compact but never had the 500 bhp you were after. But it had a superb torque curve

The Lexus V8, what was it from? and what kind of power output did it have?

Im Building a TR7 V8 and im considering a more modern V8 for it.. a 300hp Rover isnt going to do much for me anymore i think!

Think it was around 300 bhp and lots of torque from really low rpm so would be a good install! Incredibly compact and light. And it was so smooth. Think I'm sure it needed a supra rwd box with modded bell housing

I expect your talking about the soarer V8, not bad standard but no where near 500bhp!

LS is probably your best option, a good selection of UK drift cars with them! but as said some larger bmw engines with tuning could be a cheaper option? or get a 4 rotor and rev the tits off it!

whats your overall reason to wanting 500bhp and nasp? im guessing you are already in the drift scene and looking to compete?although its different, im not sure its the best way to go if your asking the question what engine then I would guess you have never driven a 500bhp nasp engine or top level drifting?

We went for a GM LS3
NA engines dont run as hot as turboed and supercharged.
And the dont put that much stress into everything.
And there is no lag.

Im not driving, just the mechanic.
We run in the Scandinavien drift series in a BMW E46 M3 360 bhp
