V627/1 Major Components
rustyk - 6/5/09 at 07:55 PM

Hi,

Just filling my V627/1 form out and not 100% about which parts to say came from the Donor Sierra.
The engine came from an Astra, but would I be right in saying that all the other major parts (apart from Chassis) came from the donor car?
I know you need to get '8 points' as the INF26 form states that. To get 8 I'd need to 'prove' that suspension, axles, transmission and steering were from the Sierra.
Just wondering what anyone else put?
Thanks a lot!

The 'Built Up Vehicle Inspection Report' V627/1, list major components for a car as;

Chassis/Body Shell
Axles
Transmission
Steering Assembly
Engine
Suspension (front and back)

You only need to use 2 of the above from a donor vehicle to qualify for an age related plate and as the form is rather vague it is open to interpretation.

Sorry to jump in but do they ever question it? Ie could i claim my type 9 box is from the xr4x4 donor or would it just be classed as sierra? And also most back axles are say sierra and front cortina?
I also thought you only needed 2 from the list to qualify but im just at the same point as you so not speaking from experience.

Actually I misread the guidelines - for kit cars it's definitely 2 components. I'm still not 100% as to what qualifies though as technically neither the steering or the axles are 100% Sierra.

go for steering and axles the majority of kits use the sierra column and rack and the front/rear hubs and diff thats 2 major components

Surely build pics would class as proof that the components are from the donor? You did take pics didnt you?

Axles = NEW, supplied with the kit.
Transmission = NEW, show the reciept for the prop.

Get me drift

It looks like the best answer to this question is "how many ways are there to skin a cat?".
In the end I just took the form to the DVLA, described what made up the kit and we put that most of it came from the donor sierra, which it did, apart from the engine and chassis.
Like others have 'suggested', it's open to interpretation. I guess there's an element of playing it by ear but as long as you've got the right pieces of paper I'm not sure it's that big a deal one way or the other...
Got my inspection on Monday so we'll see!
:-D

Please keep us informed - a lot of us are in the same boat (even though branches of DVLA seem to sail in different ones!)
