Progress / Airbox

Hi guys
Its been a bit quiet on here lately have you all hibernated ha ha oh yes i forgot you are all in you garages freezing your nuts off, well here is a little insperation for you cos i am very very close to being done now.
Oh no i forgot IVE ALREADY BEEN DONE!!!!!!!!!! i think you all no what i mean, anyway what do you think of my latest????????.

Ive been making one of these airboxes to try and gain a bit more BHP, got the bare bones right now and hoping to get it welded up this week,
Then having a removable lid to gain access to the fixings, and a direct cold air feed from down in the front of the nosecone.
How much BHP do you gain if any from this , Is there a noticable difference.
Bearing in mind just had it on the rolling road with out an airbox and was ONLY getting 209 BHP

All looking very tidy and it's going to shee-eyft with north of 200 bhp.

In fact it will go so fast that the doppler effect will kick in and the car will look purple as it tears part you , not pink...

What mods have you done to the engine to get that sort of power out of it?
Looks amazing by the way

i predict, if its welded up exactly as it is, 0bhp unless you allow air to get in the box somehow

very nice though

airbox

Thanks guys
the air box will be fed from down at the bottom of the nose cone through a large cone filter and up through a 3" stainless pipe to the airbox so will definitely be getting cold air

engine mods

Hi again
The Engine mods have progressed over a few years as i used to race it in a grass track oval car Its a calibra engine fitted with steel rods, race pistons pocketed to suit cam lift, re profiled cams (top secret profiles) verniers, solid lifters, coscast head, fully lightened and balanced, std ignition system, oil cooler, kawasaki 1100ZZR carbs overhalled and set up by bogg brothers, then tuned by Sanspeed at bexlyheath kent. Not bad Eh

Surely that air is going to be red hot after passing through a radiator?

Air box

No i very much dout it the speed the air will be coming in at the bottom of the rad i dont think it will have time to get hot
anyway the front of the cone filter draws cold air from the holes in the side panel where the wishbones are mounted. Good to see you are paying attention.

I dunno, IMHO I would like to see a sealed filter box with a cold air feed from the front of the car.

The filter you have there will be soaked in heat at sub 40mph, which is when you want the air to be coldest.

I hope not but you may be dissapointed the next time you have it on the rollers.

I suspect changing the ignition system would give you better bhp too... Megasquirt perhaps?

air box

The air box is not finished yet it will be sealed when done , and like i said it will be drawing cold air from down at the bottom of the side panel and the air intake temperature will be a dam site colder than all these airboxes i've seen with the air filter at the top and rearmost part of the engine bay inclosed in all the heat from the engine bay, i've already done a dummy run and it revs cleanly up to 8000rpm with no lag at all so hopefully there wont be any problems .
Thanks for your concerns .

Better sucking from down there then drawing in heat from the engine bay thanks to a hot exhaust

As has allready been said , it's highly unlikely that you will gain any power - you just wont lose so much from hot air being drawn in .
It is possible that you will lose power from having to suck air through that 3" pipe though - much better to have the filter up by the carbs being force fed cold air .

Its cuz I is blond , innit
