Buying a SORN'd car

If you buy a car that is currently on a SORN, and you wish you continue with it on a SORN do you as the new owner have to re-apply for the SORN or does it keep its existing status?

I didn't have to with mine, SORN was made by previous owner, and still applies for me.

Which reminds me I need to renew it soon!

A while ago, a member had an issue with this if i remember correctly.
The car was sorned when he bought it, he didn't declare it as SORN again and got done?

You have to re-sorn it, unless it's being kept at the same address - the SORN declaration includes the address where it is kept off the road.

Correct, and as it costs nothing, and can save you whole load of hassle, its not worth ignoring.

Could you book an MOT near your house and drive it there, then drive it home with the fail certificate and sorn it at home?

You could, if it drives. They didn't ask me when I SORNed my donor (which actually did arrive on the back of a vehicle transporter).

If you put it on a trailer, dont forget to mask off the number plates to stop an ANPR camera catching you and them sending you a fine.

Will save you having to explain an automatic fine.

In fact I would sheet it down with a cheapo tarp. Or you may get stopped and asked why the plates are blanked off.

Its no fun any more is it!.
