DVLA & Engine swaps.

Just been reading the PPC article on SVA etc.

Mentions proof of engine numbers and capacities...

Just swapped my 1.8 out for a newer 2.0. If I just put the details on the V5 and send it off will that be all thats needed??

They may ask you to get a garage to certify that the new number is as you've declared - but as you're not trying to go down a tax band they well just accept your number.

It depends on the whim of the DVLA...

I wrote a brief letter including a couple of pics that showed engine number and it was changed very quickly

yeah and if you include a table of engine number formats where they show the engine capacities, then that might help too. Most of that kind of thing can be downloaded from the web plus like the pintos there may be a casting number on the side with the capacity

My conversation with them went like this:

ME:
'Hi, I've changed the engine on my kit car - its bigger so I'm not after reduced tax.'

DVLA:
You'll need a letter from the garage that carried out the conversion'

Me:
'I did it.'

DVLA:
'In that case you'll need an independent engineers report.'

Me:
'OK, I won't bother then!'

Suffice to say its still registered as a 1.8.
