Im new to this forum stuff and im new to the world of building kitcars (complete novice) :S

After a visit to a recent kitcar show, i decided to have a go at building one for myself (how hard could it be).

well.....
after setting my sights quickly on an mk indy, due to living close by. I placed an order and steadily worked my way till i needed to make a decision on brakes !?!

Hi-spec or wilwood ?

With my car having standard uprights and hubs from a sierra im a little lost with which kits to look at. id like to go new with front and rear disc, and include handbrake!

what have other mk indy owners got on there cars?

any input would be advantageous cheers all Mark

I've not got an Indy but I've used standard Sierra items as have many others. They're designed for a vehicle far heavier than ours so will work fine.
The only thing I can offer about Hi Spec is that I believe they're great items but the customer service is terrible.
Have you checked out Hellfires site here ? They used Sierra items and have an Indy.

hi-specs are good also but the customer service needs a little oil!

i run the high spec ultra lights, 900g's / caliper 4 pots, with 260mm vented, drilled and grooved discs on the front, by god they look the nuts as well!

I'd get started and worry about such things when you have a chance to find out what you really need. The standard Sierra stuff is well up to the job and even if you decide to change later it is no hassle. With the Sierra you will have a choice of front disc size and rear drums or discs. When you first start you try and get everything sorted at once but I suspect your ideas will be very different at the end of the build.

I'd heard that Hispecs were slightly beter, but wre hard to get hold of due to poor service and lack of supply.

I've gone with the wilwoods on the front, but stuck to the standard sierra rear calipers as the wilwood handbrake calipers are allegedly not too good on the handbrake part.

Rally Design are the place to get them from and they were fitted in a matter of 15 minutes or so - dead easy.

Im based in sunny olde Conisbrough, just a few miles away from maltby (to hellfire, phil) interested in viewing over your set up, and any pointers would be great

so what about the handbrake rear caliper attactment from hispec? looking at old posts ppl have had difficulties passing through the sva!?!

what pads should i look at, which i feel should be more road going baised than track

thinking about 15" wheels too, should i take this into account when choosing the size of disc's ?

hi spec's as they have dust seals wilwoods dont

I should see how the std sierra stuff is, I think it is easy to get bogged down with decisions like this, I got mine on the road as quickly and as simply as possible, and left upgrades to the annual winter tinkering session !
