Well had my SVA this morning at Gillingham.
Met Neil my examiner, Top bloke.
Had to say that coz he frequents the build forums...
Took the time to explain things to me, and answer all my inane questions.
I felt he did everything he could to help me pass.
If you are reading this Neil.. Thanks mate
Had a stupid fail though..
Trying to save money I didn't replace my front discs.
They looked OK, but it turned out they were warped !!
The rest was OK apart from a couple of wires I forgot to cover.
AND......For future reference to anyone going for their test.
I was quite confident my sports steering wheel would pass OK
It had good padding and good radiuses.
But he said a non standard Sierra steering wheel will not pass, because it is not type approved.
Anyway, Got a retest this Wednesday afternoon.
So bought a new set of discs on the way home.
Will fit them tomorrow, and fit the standard Sierra steering wheel.
Thanks for all the support guys, fingers crossed again for Wednesday
David
congratulations, really easy points to rectify you must be really happy. So by Wednesday afternoon you'll be the proud owner of the fabled
MAC.
Lastly any photos?

Mine passes last week with a momo steering wheel with a home made pad in the middle.
^^ Mine as well passed using a Mountney wheel and home-made pad.
Also failed using second-hand discs but mine because there was a lip on the inner edge which meant the pads weren't contacting the discs - stupid
or what? Bought some Gp N ones from RalDes.
Best of luck for your re-test.
Cheers, Pewe
That's bonkers re the steering wheel! Still, sounds a good fail
Surely some of the bits have to be non-standard!! If you have to fit the original Sierra parts through the car don't you end up driving a
Sierra!?

Mine failed on a Mountney wheel on a Sierra column. To make it acceptable to SVA I had to fit a collapsible boss. The argument, as I understand it, is that the Ford wheel is type approved with known behaviour in a crash whereas your sports wheel is an unknown quantity.
Thats about a good a fail as you could get
Well done, get ready for the summer!!
Cheers
Rich
Good fail indeed quick retest too
mine passes with a Q/release wheel and it counted as one of my imobis
Well done matey good fail.
That steering wheel thing is crap. Mine passed friday with a mountney wheel and a home made pad which i made in 3 minutes.
Well done on doing it in 6 weeks but a shame you didnt pass. Easy fixes though
Thanks for the support guys.
As you say as close to a pass as you can get. About 45mins more work and £40 and it would have passed.
Annoyed with myself though for such a stupid fail
As I know it was my fault.
The discs were on the list to be replaced.
But trying to save money cost me more.
Bloody retest fee
I did ask if I could change them there during my fettling time.
Think that was pushing my luck a bit
Not realy bothered about the Steering wheel, He knows it will get changed back as soon as I get home.
David
