hi again if the front and rear axles are both 450kg does that make the gross weight 900kg

Hellfire - 12/1/09 at 07:23 PM

Usually not. At SVA, our blade engined Indy had an axle 1 weight of 194kg and axle 2 weight of 220kg. The actual weight of the whole vehicle was nearer 500kg when weighed accurately.

any clue as to what the gross weight might be

snapper - 12/1/09 at 07:25 PM

Yes ish but be carefull you will get close to 450 over the rear with two people at 75Kg each plus 15Kg baggage and a full fuel tank I Kg per litre.
The design weights are what the chassis is designed to withstand so 550 450 would be good and will leave a margin for error.
Remember its not what the weights are but what the car is designed to carry fully loaded all up with gran the kids and camping gear

If I remember correctly, I don't think you have to put the car weight on the SVA application form. They ask for something like maximum axle loads and I put 500kg axle 1 and 550kg axle 2. The car gets weighed at SVA when full of fuel and a notional figure added for the driver. They then use this figure in their brake calculations.

thanks snapper will bear that in mind just need to work out gross weight now

flak monkey - 12/1/09 at 07:31 PM

450 and 450 is fine unless your car is lardy.

That makes 900kg gross

Train weight is irrelevant unless you have fitted a towbar!

There are some helpful 'stickies' at the top of this section....

Aaahh, you're after the design weights. In which case, like Mr Monkey says.
