How does that work then ? Surely it's your car until you decide otherwise ?

Bad luck too, I've been in 2 accidents so far, neither my fault, but didn't get paid out for either (there's a suprising number of uninsured drivers out there). Although I was lucky that both times the damage could be repaired ;(

dunno...he said it was casue the three major components are gone...(chassis, engine, suspention) i asked if i could, but he said theres some government thing to stop unsafe cars going on the road...im not sure if ive been scammed??

its probably been classified as category A or B. in which case it can only be sold on to the trade as spares and recycling only.

If the insurance company classed it as a "class A or class B" right off then you wont get it back. This is to stop it being put back on the road. If you smack it up real bad and dont tell insurance and pay your self then you can get round this but be very careful. If you are then involved in another accident and the structual guys get hold of it and discover whats been done then you could be in real trouble.

i told him i was wanting to put in a new chassis (although it could be fixed, im just not happy with it), the engine can be fixed quite easily, and the suspension only requires new shocks at the front, with new driver side wishbones...

find out who they are selling the salvage too. They aren't allowed to sell the chassis but can sell the components. Call them before they get it and agree to have it off them for cost plus 20 quid (for their time) & if they want you'll even help the driver collect the empty chassis from your house (assuming thats where it is now)

Tell them that lots of the parts on the car have a sentimental value. They may be more sympathetic and might let you know where the salvage is going. Gotta be worth a try..........

Is the car at your place or kept somewhere else??

I remember someone saying (possibly on here) about saying come get car but 1st pay up for the storage, gave a quote based on prices of other companies that keep cars on behalf of insurance firms.

Insurance company changed their mind about lifting the car.

Maybe will not work but atleast you might just get a few extra ££££££'s

surely if you have the car then you would completely strip it, so that they could only take the chassis.
