Hi,
I insured my build (as I live in scumsville) and when they asked for the chassis number, I gave them my engine number, as the chassis didn;t have a
number.
Now I'm coming to SVA time, I really do need to stamp my chassis - so can I just use the Engine number for continuity?
On bikes, engine and frame numbers match, so I'm hoping there won;t be an issue.
Any comments?

As mentioned many bikes are like this.
As long as YOUR dvla are happy with you supplying them the chassis number, as opposed to them issuing it to you, which can happen

Chasis/VIN no.s are 17 alphanumeric characters long so it's unlikely your engine number will be long enough.
Some have been able to make up their own chasis number and have it accepted by the DVLA. I tried this and they didn't.
In the end I wrote to my local DVLA office requesting a chasis number and had one issued within 2 weeks FoC. I'd recomend this route as there
can be no subsequent query or argument on their part afterwards.
Also, make sure that you stamp it on the actual chasis and not just a rivetted on plate.
I don't think you will get away with that either.
Usually with a bike only the number parts match not the whole thing.
I don't really have time to write to DVLA and wait two weeks... SVA paperwork needs to be in ASAP to beat IVA.

I found a scanned DVLA letter on here I might print off and keep to wave under their nose if they don't like my chassis number.
Surely if it is stamped in already they can;t do much?
is that my letter? firstly is has been modified to hide the writer's name and address hence DVLA my say the reast has been modified.
secondly it has been mentioned that this is what one particular local DVLA office said and may not necessarily be the rule ort what other local DVLA
offices accept - some don't allow you to allocate you own VIN number.
but to answer the original question, I donlt think so and I am not sure that bikes have the same rame and engine number but do have a fair bit
duplicated - I may be wrong n this though.

IMHO the number should be a MAX of 17 digits, and mine was OK with a rivetted plate.
Wats the worst they can do if you build a house without planning permission? 
Mine is the MNR supplied & already stamped in chassis number which is 14 digits long & DVLA in Chester were fine with that.

Don't you do the SVA before hte DVLA bit - so doesn't that mean you can pass SVA then argue with DVLA ?
