SVA looms........
iiyama - 18/1/09 at 05:34 PM

Ok guys and gals, SVA for me is in just over two weeks. So to that end heres a selection of pics for you all to cast a critical eye! Known points:-

I have not fitted the reflectors as Im un-decided as to where to put them! Under the indicator puts it only 10mm above the minimum hieght required. Do they check the car with or without driver??? Id prefer to stick it under the indicator but if they check with driver then there will probably be a 10mm + drop in the suspension.

I havent sorted the brake balance bar yet!

There is a bonnet scoop to cover the filter. Ill include a picture to give an idea, but it has yet to be fully finished. That should happen this coming weekend!

Very tidy car, worth fitting a boot lid/cover for sva.

Is the steering wheel compliant.

Danozeman - 18/1/09 at 06:34 PM

Boot cover and the harness mounts look too low. The steering i reckon will need a pad.

Is that flip front?? Just wondering why the cleco's in the bonnet?

Looks good though. I love those rear arches.

just stick the reflectors on with the magic 'sva glue'
unless of course your rear lights are reflective?
nice build!

great looking car, love the detail in engine bay,
only thing i,ve not seen are side indicator repeaters? but hey i haven,t built a car yet so what would i know, just about to start my build but thought side repeaters were required.
sorry if i,m out of order.

great car, good luck at sva.

Steering wheel is compliant, Ive taken it into Southampton SVA and they've cleared it.

Forgot to mention boot cover, that will be done next weekend too!

Cleco's are still in place as I havent riveted the nosecone and bonnet together yet

Hope the harness mounts arent to low, could be a pita to sort that.....

Like the idea of the reflectors falling off after, arnt they an MOT requirement though???? Dont think the rear lights are reflective, havent thought about finding out if they are though. Be cool if they are!

Gratuitous shot of rear arch:-

Quite pleased with all the carbon, came up quite well and much better then the Dax supplied units. Remade arches front and rear, tunnel, cockpit sides and rear, dash and centre consol, bonnet scoop, light mountings front and rear and cockpit top mouldings.

Thanks for the compliments guys and also the observations. Be nice if it gets through first time!

Ian - Car and the carbon look fantastic!

Was the carbon difficult/expensive to do?

Thanks mucka!
Expensive? Well sorta. Difficult? Yes and no!

Let me explain! I have a good friend that owns a small carbon business, (Creative Carbon), so in that respect I am quite fortunate! Even more fortunate in the fact that I get mates rates. Some of the stuff Ive made myself, other components such as the tunnel and the rear arches was made by the professionals. Its all pre-preg and to keep costs realistic only the face ply is carbon and this is backed up with glass, (again pre-preg).

I made pretty much all of the moulds though and would have made all of them except for time constraints. So the bonnet scoop and right rear arch moulds I had made, I made all the rest though. Have got a spare nose cone so I may get around to moulding this sometime this year. However I quite like the yellow so watch this space!

Gotta say Im not sure if they count as 'side' repeaters. Thought Id see what SVA man says..........

iiyama - 20/1/09 at 07:25 PM

So....whats the concencous on the side repeaters then? Will the ones in the mirrors count or not? Or for the sake of a few quid should I fit some into the sides to be on the safe side?

adithorp - 20/1/09 at 11:50 PM

Pretty sure they don't pass the angles of visability test. IIRC its 5' forward and 45' to the rear. I spoke to someone at one of the shows who'd failed with those mirrors/repeaters.

Edit...Angles are viewed from the rear between 5' and 60' out from the side of the car
