I'm looking for the smallest "legal" sized square number plate. 4 letters across 1st row, 3 on 2nd row, all full width.
My calculations is 255mm [2x 11mm (border) + 4x 50 (Letters) + 3x 11 (Gaps)] by 199mm [2x 11mm (Borders) + 2x 79mm (letters)+ 1x 19mm?

standard legal size is 279 x 203 or 11 x 9
I think a standard bike plate at 228 x 177 or 9 x 7 would probably go unnoticed
I think your maths are right, 255x199 to the letter of the law, but a bike size plate, as mentioned seems to go un noticed on all manner of imports so you should be fine there

As far as I understand it, providing there is 11mm reflective around the figures that is legal.
I hope so anyway coz I've cut my plate down to that ...

Bikes and imports can use a 64mm font, hence the smaller overall plate size.
