Guys can you answer this odd one for me.
If I run out of time doing all the stuff thats really required for SVA is it possible to fix the boot lid so that it doesnt open.
According to my mechanic mate it has to be able to open for the MOT but does this also apply to SVA
In additon does the number plate light have to be fitted?
Yes you'll have to remove the boot cover for SVA so that the inspector can see what's below it i.e. the wiring etc.
As for the number plate light then I'd have thought yes. You're not presenting a roadworthy car without it.
would not think so. most mnr's have a solid carbon sheet over rear end which is screwed down. that cant be removed.
It can be removed when it has to be unscrewed. That's what the inspector asked me to do, luckily I had a removable panel in it though that he hadn't seen.
I think i remember someone SVAing without a boot lid. Just left it open
I had a lid but when removed there is a box / boot under it
my car passed first time no problem

Beware the Dome of Death
If you can get the dome to the sharp bits the car will fail.
One Guy (Scottie) used a sheet of perspecs, SVA could see but not touch
I had a central screwed down section on my boot lid, I was asked to remove it so he could see inside to check seat belt top mounts and all
wiring/piping.
SVA was last Friday.
i had mine screwed down and said that he would want to look in it later on in the test however never did!
was thinking of bolting it through the mounting flanges but not lining out the boot area so he would be able to see everything from underneath
Mine opened but had a boot tray underneath. He didn't ask me to remove. He told me that it could be covered in razor blades and would have passed but the "sharp" edge on my reflectors had to fail. He seemed really apologetic. I was under the impression they couldn't ask you to dismantle the car if it couldn't be done with the tools that come with the car.
mine had the standard MK boot lid in the back, was never asked to take it off (though it is removable) he just looked from underneath the car....
