Travel to SVA

I know that I can drive the car to the SVA test with no plates on etc

But- its a 50 + mile trip for me. Which I'd rather not do at rush hour in an untested car.

I could drive up the night before, and keep the car overnight in a friends garage, which woudl give me a 15 mile trip on the day.

The question is- would I still be legal if I did this?

nope. If your nervous then I'd hire a trailer, I reakon the night before the SVA has got to be stressful enough, without panicing if your car will make it or not.

I'm not sure what happen if you fail to tun up at the test, but the SVA window being so tight now, it would be a real shame for you to loose your fee AND then have to pay over £500 for the IVA!

It makes the £35 on hiring a trailer seem a no brainer for me. Or if your strapped for cash, see if you can borrow one from a mate or maybe a local friendly locoster?

its not so much the trailker hire- thats £60

But i have nowhere to store a trailer overnight........

if you borrow one rather than rent it, then someone local might not mind you collecting it at 5am or something daft like that? Or you could speak to the local hire place, some of them are very helpful - others just fob you off, but worth asking

I once loaded one of mine up the night before & left it attached to the car outside the house on the road. It may depend where you live.
