twybrow - 29/5/09 at 06:56 AM

2pm this afternoon it's crunch time!

I am like a school boy waiting to go to Disneyland! Hopefully ticked off all of the jobs on my fail sheet. The sun is shining so what more could I ask for.....? Now I just have to get through the next few hours of work!

twybrow - 29/5/09 at 09:01 AM

Thanks guys. I am some what nervous, as every journey so far has involved at least one cause to stop/be towed. I'm hoping today is the start of things to come (and the Mrs is busy at work, so I better pray I don't break down!)....!

nitram38 - 29/5/09 at 09:05 AM

Bit of advice. Your tester will have seen loads of other cars since yours so to make their lives easier (and yours), photo copy your fail sheet and on the photo copy write a list of the corrections you have done.
I did this a Mitcham and all I did was go around the car with the tester and say, you said this, this is what I,ve done to fix it.
This meant about 30 seconds of checking what I'd done (visually no test gauges) and the only last job on mine was the sound test.
The re-test took 15 mins in total.

Good Luck today!

Good luck

Great weather

Then just the DVLA but you could be a lucky b*stard like me and get an 09 plate instead on age related

twybrow - 29/5/09 at 09:24 AM

I have the fail sheet, and we discussed at length the fixes after the test. He remembered me and the car when I spoke to him a week back.

The major bits to retest are brakes and emissions, so I reckon on being there 30-45mins....

Spoke to the DVLA yesterday - if I get back in time, I will go there this afternoon. they have told me I will get an inspection next week (assuming I pass!). I can't wait!

YQUSTA - 29/5/09 at 09:40 AM

It's all good! A pass!!! Took the long way home - sorry!

Nightmare getting there - never Trust sat-nav! My gear linkage broke (snapped a nylon rod end) - bodged at the side of the road with cable ties in central Brum! Got stuck in dreadful traffic, and had fun watching the temperatures creeping.... Turned up 15 minutes late (oops).

Indicators and horn have stopped working (although hazards still work, which was lucky as indicator lense colour was one of my fail points, and the tester just put the hazards on to check!). I hope it's just a fuse.

Brakes - just tested balance and took it for a rag around the compound. He seemed pleased! A quick glance at the bias bar (the tester actually pushed my roll pin in - but it is so loose I can't believe he didn't complain!

Radii - quick glance. No problems.

Rear view mirror (Ractech this time). Passed with trim, but not really needed.

Emissions test was a nightmare. Straight fail on fast idle first off, and my laptop refused to start. Idle was fine, and he printed a slip. After a long 20 mins of trying, I got the computer to work, and played with the mixtures. It made bugger all difference. The tester said he was going home in 5 mins - one last try I say. Loaded a previous iteration of my SVA map, and it went bang on target straight away.

5 minutes later I had my MAC! Oh my god. What a feeling. It's like passing your driving test all over again!

Had a great drive home. Had a drag race with a Scoob (peed all over him!), and some fun with a Cayenne Turbo! Roll on next week when I commence battle with the DVLA!

Sorry, this has been too long, and I am going to make it even longer by thanking you all. I couldn't have built this thing without the help of many of those on here. You lot are all legends and I love you all!

Nice one mate! Looks like the gods smiled on you today then?

stevegough - 29/5/09 at 08:40 PM

Fan bloody tastic!

Good to hear it - sounds like you had a real party with the SVA man this time!

Never mind, just the 'jobsworth' guys to tackle now - then you can get out there and enjoy this weather!!

How long did the car take you from start to finish? A year? six months? six years?

What's the first post - SVA mod going to be?

Don't forget the post - SVA glory shots with your greasy hands holding your greasy MAC !!:

Anyway, Well done that man!!

Steve. (still a long way to go before I even think about IVA......)

The gods were definitely smiling on me. I turned up thinking I was doomed. It got worse, then it all came good with seconds to spare!

I picked up the car as a part built April 2007. I have stripped down and rebuilt just about everything since then.

First SVA mod was donw today, and that was to lose the huge front indicators I had on. I took the oppurtunity as I have the nose cone off to fix a coolant leak.

No shots from the day, as my cameraman (Jo) was at work. Still, I'll be sure to put some piccies up with the plates on. Hopefully going to get an inspection next week, in time for a weekend in Wales with the car next weekend!
