My husband died in Februaury this year. He has built a lowcost 7 type car having manufactured his own chassis. There is a testing station in Aberdeen which is close to where we live and my husband has taken his car along about half a dozen times for testing. Each time he has received a list of problems which he has rectified and it has then failed again on a new list of problems.
Due to feeling it was futile he lost the will to continue with the process.
Because of all the time and effort he put into building the car, and out of respect, I would like to put it on the road.
Is anyone able to offer any suggestions on help and advice available in the Aberdeen area? All suggestions and advice gratefully received.

Sorry to hear about your situation, there are some people who finnish kit cars, http://www.kitfinishers.co.uk/ is one guy that used to be on this forum.
The test is now IVA, costs £450, £100 retest.
There are some differences, but not a huge difference.

I'm sure it would be possible to get the car on the road. There are several members here in your area.

It would help us a lot if you could upload the list of failure points then we can make suggestions.

Alternatively, there are companies that will do this sort of work for you. I don't know of any in your area but there may be something.

I'm not close to you so couldn't help with finishing the car, but do you think you could find the fail lists for the car?

that way even if people can't get close then they can suggest ways of rectifying the problems.

The only other consideration is that SVA has now become IVA which is slightly different.

a few pictures of the car will speak a thousand words too and we can advise how to get them put on the site once you've taken them.

Thanks for the advice and replies. I contacted this forum because I found one of your mags in the house, so perhaps my husband was a member. I honestly don't know, this was his passion not mine. There will be a record of his tests somewhere that is for sure but I don't know where at this point. I don't think it is really about what it failed on in the past, it was road ready and still would be, apart from the fact that I tripped in the garage and damaged one of the headlights, so that will need to be replaced with the same again. It was tested, "faults" rectified and new ones found each time. We have a car transporter, I just need to start the process all over again. Given that there is a test centre near by I was hoping that there is also near by a company that could put a car through the tests. I will find some pics and add them if I can. Thanks, Joy.

Another test center might be a better option. It seams that some VOSA people are good, and some were definately bullied as a child.

Welcome, Joy. Sorry to hear of your loss.

Reading your first post and the fact that it has failed test several times leaves me, and probably a few others wondering about it's condition. IVA can be a case of failing on what might seem insignificant things to the un-initiated. Pictures would be a big help towards us giving advice.

I'm sure someone local to you will be along soon and they might be able to call and have a proper look over the car. Which is far better than looking at pictures.

Hi James, I think before anyone can help me they want to see some pics and I can't find any as yet. My two oldest daughters who live around Cambridge took me to stay with them straight after the funeral. I have been back in my own home for less than two weeks and I am just starting to sort out the legal implications of Ed's death. He did keep good records and there will be lots of pics but I haven't had a chance to find them as yet. Thanks Joy
