Steering Wheel to indicator stalk
Mawbs - 22/10/10 at 07:57 PM

Serious question everyone, i have changed my design and extended my steering column to the wheel. I now have around 140mm from the wheel to the indicator stalk and horn press. Is there any rules as to the IVA for this distance, do you have to be able to indicate etc without removing your hand from the wheel. Thanks for anything, Mawbs.

I don't believe there's any rule here on stalk distance. After all, you don't have to have your indicators or any other switches on stalks - they can be on the dash or tunnel.

Possibly a more important consideration for a car where you'll likely be wearing a 4 or 5 point harness and strapped in good and tight is whether you can still comfortably and safely reach/operate those controls. Might sound silly, but I've seen dash layouts where you'd never reach some of the controls without unstrapping yourself

Indicators will still need to self cancel.
