I may have the chance of a secondhand chassis.

I seem to remember that when I filled out my last lot of DVLA forms, I needed to provide proof that I bought the chassis new to get the donor registration year mark.

How do I stand with a secondhand chassis, Q plate?

Just to add, I do not want a new 11 plate, or whatever, just the donor year.

As long as the chassis number hasn't been previously registered, you should be able to get an age plate - it's the same as buying a part-finished project, then finishing it and registering it.

i guess if it had a new chassis number and you thought it was new then you would be fine calling it new so rest of components bar 2 need to be new to get new plate.

or you will get age related......

Age related registration numbers

A vehicle will be given an age related number if two major parts from the donor vehicle are used with one of the following:

a new monocoque bodyshell, chassis or frame from a specialist kit manufacturer

a used or altered chassis, monocoque bodyshell or frame from an existing vehicle

In this case an IVA, SVA or MSVA certificate will be needed to register the vehicle.

The registration number will be based on the age of the donor vehicle. The date of manufacture will be shown as the date the IVA, SVA or MSVA certificate was issued.


Note the word 'new' monocoque chassis.

Or a used chassis from an existing vehicle, which I assume has had to be already registered?

New in their case means unregistered I think - is it a book chassis, or is it an MK or whatever?

I would read "used or altered chassis, monocoque bodyshell or frame from an existing vehicle" to mean "chassis from a registered vehicle" i.e. if it is a part built, then it still counts as new?
