Hi all
I have a used 2.0 duratec engine in my garage waiting to be fitted but i would like at least a 57 reg plate for my car, my problem is that my gearbox
and diff are recon items and class as my 1 used item.
If i was to fit a recon bike engine 1st then change the engine back to the duratec after the IVA and registration would i get away with it?
Or is there a simpler way round this problem.
Many Thanks
Mark
Once you have your registration you are free to do what you like, but a brand new bike engine will cost £££ when you can get a new Zetec for £750,
*NEW* Ford Zetec Engine 2.0L Black Top High Spec Zetec-R Kit Car Focus Fiesta | eBay.
And a new Gearbox, dunno if this one will fit Ford MT75 Gearbox Sierra Granada Scorpio R988T-7003-BA 2.0 Litre DOHC NEW !!! |
eBay
Sell on the duratec
A recon bike engine (which would automatically be classed as a recon gearbox too) and then recon diff would end up with a Q plate as thats 2(or 3)
recon parts, and you can only have 1.
Must also be recon'd to an 'as new' standard, not just cleaned up with a lick of paint etc!

Looks like i will have to sell the used duratec and buy a new one then
Or get a receipt saying your gearbox and diff have been re-built to as new
You won't get a q if you have a donor. You will get age related. New plates for cars with only 1 recon part
Is there anywhere that still sell new diffs?
I have a receipt for a new gearbox casing, as the mt75 from the sierra won't fit the duratec but the transit 2.3 LPg duratec is basically a
sierra mt75 with a new bell housing that fits the duratec
Why do you want a 57 plate? Do you have a donor v5? Age related plates are fine,as are q plates
I bought a new 7.5" sierra diff from Bearingkits.co.uk. He had a load of them a year ago for £550.
He may have some left. They are open diffs, but my plan is to buy a used lsd after IVA and swop the innards over. Or buy a quaife if i can afford it!

That won't get you a new reg as they will still be classed as 2 recon components and only one is allowed.
The reg that i want is GB57ERO
I will just buy a new duratec as this would be the simplest route.
Well you need to find a donor which is 57 plate or newer, or aim for a new reg (ie 61 plate or 12 plate depending on when you register it
obviously)
Do you plan on buying the GB57 plate from the DVLA? if so have you checked its availablity?
It was available I have not checked it in the past week if i have got to go for a new reg that will do then i will change the plates at a later date i just don't want to buy the plate and won't be able to use it on my Zero
Buy it and if you cant use it, sell it to GBS, im sure they would have it on their demo car!
think you would possibly ahve to Go the MX5 route to get a donnor plate on a 57 all sierras are single letters then numbers ie F246 TRW (hope thats no one plate )

Not strictly, as the wording on the form is 'transmission' therfore incorporating gearbox and Diff. However driveshafts are listed seperately so they will need to be new.
Caterham will sell you a new diff that looks like a Sierra on to me (£1500 inc vat).
Or a recon one from Westfield for £380 (probably recon to new condition, but check first).
