Identifying Caterham VIN

Hi Guys

I'm hoping someone could help explain to me how i can register my build. I purchased a Caterham chassis as a project that had been crash damaged on the front o/s corner, i had a new long front chassis repair section already so it seamed a good use of it.

The Chassis has had its chassis number transfered to another car that the guy replaced it with. I purchased it off of him knowing this so my repaired Chassis now has no chassis number on it.

What i'm hoping is someone could tell me how i could go about registering it once i have built it up into a road car. I am not looking to get any sort of age related reg and i fully understand it will be on a Q plate which is fine with me. What i don't understand is what do i put it down as on the registration document. I have a reciept to confirm the purchase i made of it from the previous owner.

I would ideally like to register it as a Caterham on the log book beacuse thats what it is but im unsure how i go about doing this. Do i just get a new 17 digit chassis number for it and go through the IVA/registration process like that?

Registering it as a Caterham is not going to be easy or I think legal as the number has been transferred again not sure about the legality of that either.
You can however buy all the bits new and register on a new reg number, buy a donor and register as an age related or use any old bits and get a Q.
In essence you have bought a chassis not a Caterham but if you have enough reciepts from Caterham what's the difference?

I would have thought that the original act of 'transferring' the chassis number was illegal. In either case, you don't have a chassis number and AFAIK the only way you will get your car on the road is to pass the IVA test.

As for the new chassis number, just apply to the DVLA.

No chassis number means you have to have an IVA. They may allow you to register it as a caterham, they may not. Just have to try it and see if they allow you too.
