Vehicle VIN plate
karlak - 5/4/12 at 02:19 PM

Hmmm,

During the fitting of the pedals and other work on my Indy, it seems that the original Sierra VIN plate has gone missing.

Is this going to be a problem - The car is all road legal etc, just that now there wont be a Chassis number or engine number on a Plate.

Cheers

On an IVA/SVA'd registered car?, shouldnt have had the sierra VIN anyway.
If its running the sierra VIN then it could be incorrectly registered?

Interesting...

I just checked the V5 for the car and it is regsitered as an age-related F-plate car and is described as a MK Sports Car. So that all seems OK.

What would you normally expect to see ?

That's correct
The Sierra VIN is only kept to prevent someone else ringing another car and for a bit of extra proof at registration.
A kit car should have its own VIN number

Thats good news then! But as Snapper said it should have its own VIN, check the body for a stamped/engraved VIN and check it against V5 and what was on the old plate, wherever its 'gone'

according to the MOT testers manual, section 6.3

"A Vehicle Identification Number (VIN or chassis number) is required on all vehicles first used on or after 1 August 1980, except those which are:
• kit cars
• amateur built vehicles
"
