Donor vehicle V5 and IVA

Hello,

Hoping someone can answer a question about whether I will need the donor V5 for the IVA test, my Robin Hood is
booked in at Bristol test centre for the start of September.

When I purchased the kit at rolling chassis stage on Ebay, It came with the donor number plate and VIN plate but no V5.

Now I have the test date looming i wonder whether I need to actually produce a V5 or whether registration and VIN plate
are sufficient?

Any help appreciated, if I need the donor V5 I need to apply for it now.

I don't think IVA will require any of those. However , they will want proof of of engine age, which I would suspect the best proof of this is the V5c.

You don't need the number plate, V5c or VIN plate. You can't use the VIN from the donner, it must be unique to your Kit.
I made up my own VIN, but I think that has now changed and it has to be allocated by DVLA (or whatever they are called now).
You should contact then ASAP for a VIN number.
The V5c is not acceptable as prove of engine age, engines get changed, you may need a letter from Ford. However this will depend
on the test centre. Nottingham have a Database of Ford engine numbers and also accepted the Haynes manual for proof of my ZX9R engine age.
Phone your test centre for advise as to what they will accept.

V5 has the engine number doesn't it? surely if they match the V5 would be acceptable.

Depends on the test centre, as said they take the view that engines are sometimes changed, usually for a newer one. But if the OP phones his test centre they should clarify their position on this for him.

As above, engine number can be changed on v5, so no way of proving that the engine is original or its age with v5.

What i'm saying is that if the engine number (stamped on the engine) matches the engine number on the v5, then that should be suitable proof.

No it won't - as has been said, engines get changed, for newer ones more often than not. So a '92 car could conceivably have a 2005 engine fitted at some point. If they advised DVLA of that, then the V5 would have those numbers on it - so the engine could be '05 and the V5 says '92 - therefore no proof of age at all.

Any change of engine would be notified on the v5, they would know to check this.

Under notes at the bottom of the front page. If nothings there then its reasonable to assume no changes have been made. Vosa would have to accept this as reasonable proof.
