Is it SVA ok to cable tie wiring loom direct to chassis tubes?
I'm guessing it should be ok as OE manufacturers cable tie loom to parts of the bodyshell.
Couldn't find anything specific in the SVA bible
I should bloody hope so - that is what I have done and just about everyone else!
It needs outer protective cover over individual wires so wrapped up in stuff (i.e. a loom) or placcy tubing.
I did that, and mine was fine, But it was all in either convuluted tubing, or that plastic outer sheath thing - im not sure whether bare wires would
be ok.
Just make sure you tie it at least every 6" to be safe
Tom
Where it was impossible to use P clips , I used cable ties for loom to chassis fixing. It was absolutely fine with the SVA inspector so long as the
loom is protected as mentioned by the other guys (most of mine is in plastic convoluted tubing).

what about loom taped then cable tied?

I believe that loom tape is not enough. It has to have mechanical protection. I have used spiral wrap.
My mate Naz over at paralleldesigns.com says his cars would fail unless they were spiral wrapped and he has sva lots of cars.
Mine was done in non adhesive loom tape and tiewrapped and it was o.k.

in fact we should just let the wires be 10x thicker then that they are and then its ok
Loom tape? is the normal black thick tape enough?
or should it be vulcanizing ones??
Tks
Ive cable tied mine to the chassis and p clipped down the tunnel. Its a vg loom wrapped in loom tape amd in convoluted tube so i hope its ok.
Nat check these out!
This is what I'm using
just finished the wiring completely - YAY - megasquirt and all
You just rivet them in place then put cable tie through - just looks more professional

It certainly does mate, but there's a few spots around the engine bay where getting in to rivet is a pain in the a now and I'd rather just
cable tie to the chassis. (where the loom runs along the diagonal under the throttle bodies specifically!)
Will P-clip most of it, but in some spots its not worth the hassle if its sva ok!
(PS it sort of negates the benefits of my nice pluggable loom sections if they are held in too well as well!)

i managed to drill and rivet in some of the black plastic cable tie bases though it was a bit awkward in places..
