I'm just finishing the last of the bits for my sva retest. The only thing that's giving me grief is the edges of my guages. Two are outside the given area around the steering wheel and don't comply with the whole radiusing thing. They are the racetech type and protrude about 7mm from the dash. any suggestions on what to use to get them through!?

how about recessing them into the dash?

make a naf panel out of foam backed with hardboard or summat with holes for gauges and cover it in vinyl so the gauges are recessed?

We used some heatshrink formed into a circle and glued to the outside of the bezels on one car and it passed. It didn't take much removing either . I have heard of vacuum cleaner belts being butchered to fit as well, superglue is removed with acetone by the way.

i'm pretty pleased with the dash and didn't really want to mod it at all. i really want a simple solution that i can remove afterwards leaving no damage, i can't believe you could fail on something so trivial!!!!!!!

A rubber "O" ring of a suitable size works a treat & a bit of blutack or similar does no damage & is easily removed

does seem silly like the exhaust clamps having radius edges on a red hot exhaust.

can you use a bead of silicone aroung the dials.

did you use chadderton, manchester, where abouts in chorley are you?

If you know somebody with a lath, get them to turn up some false trims, that you could stick over the offending ones. Could even be turned up in a bit of hardwood. Once you have passed they could "accidently" fall of. atb Chippy

I live in whittle le woods. Hopefully you'll see me about in the rush soon - it's tango orange with bare ali panels so you can't really miss it!!

I have got quite a bit of round profile edge trim for clipping over exposed ends of the aluminium which is about the same diameter as the guages protrude. Will this do the trick?

I think the wood trim idea would work but i don't know anyone with a lathe. Again the silicon idea would work but i have a habit of making a mess with it, and ending up with it everywhere.

SVA wise i went to chadderton. The guy testing was called steve ainsworth (i think) top chap - seemed genuinley interested in the car, and didn't even complain when i blew a coolant hose showering everywhere (including me) in lovely glycol!!!!
