no, not the usaual question but .... I sent my own number to dvla for them to check it is accpetable, it is but they say they cannot reserve it so
what happens if I make my chassis plate and in the meantime the number gets allocated?

Just started this process of registration and sva.
Spoke to local office in portsmouth ( bloody skates) and they said i couldn,t use my own and would allocate one. ????
I was also under the impression that i could keep the Reg of the donor vehicle.(No).
Also said the number should be stamped on a plate and riveted to the chassis.???
I was under the impression it was to be stamped direct to the chassis.
Do the rules change as they please or am i totally wrong?

Yes they change daily, by person and we're all wrong, wrong wrong.
I did'nt speak to anybody anywhere, made my own number up, put it on the SVA application form and then got back the Amature build declaration,
quoting my number, which I presume means it's been accepted.
I was told yesterday by nice SVA man that a single riveted plate is acceptable, no stamping nessesary........
You didn't seriously expect consistency from a government body, did you? Arses, elbows, is there a difference?

Not sure but I dont think you can use "I" in the chassis number, Why not do MK"1"NDY
or a little different use mymkindy

not sure what the probablility is but I am guessing that most people would use the kit maker in the name, e.g.
MKINDY2006.... etc. so there may well be a clash.
Maybe I should chose 9 digits and take the letter/number punch sets with me

then you just reapply with the car by SVA....
once it is accepted i would easyl stamp it in the chasis between 2 big " * " like the original numbers do look like
on several places 2 (like the big manufactures)

I used the simple, and "almost" foolproof way. Make up your vin number including your engine number as the last batch. ie, ABCDEFGHJkb32670,
seventeen with kb32670 being the engine number. Very unlikely that somebody would have the same engine number. Also SVA man said vin plate
riveted on OK, but "should" also be stamped on the chassis. atb Chippy
