Booked to visit my home today at 4pm after submitting my paperwork 3 weeks ago.
Rings up today at noon to tell me can't make it and will Friday be OK!
I asked how long to get registration number.............2-3 weeks!
I applied for SVA in May and it took 10 weeks, now another 6 for DVLA.
It will be September before the car is legal and most likely snowing!!!!!!!!!

You could always go to another DVLA - I know Maidstone don't do home inspections so once you've booked an apointment you can drive your car there (provided you're insured).

If you haven't got an SVA date yet, try Gillingham - was up there on Tiesday and they only did one SVA all afternoon

I was told by wimbledon that I am not allowed to drive it to them even if I am insured. It must be trailered.
I have my SVA/Mac so it is just the registration I am after.

You are allowed to drive it there IF they are inspecting it at the time and you're booked in as such. Or so everwhere else has said. It's one of the three things you can drive a non road legal car to. The others being MOT's and the SVA.

I found DVLA to be really good in the most part.

I sent off my Amateur Built Declaration form on 15th of June and I passed SVA last Friday. So all in all it took about 6 weeks.

Harsha at Wimbledon is really, really good, knows her stuff and is firendly/pleasant too. Once you've had inspection just take *all* your documentation to the Wimbledon office and register there. It takes about half an hour!
You'll need: MAC, Insurance Certificate, ID, utility bill, cheque book, receipts.

Take a book aswell as Wimbledon is hell at this time of year. Make sure you speak to the 'triage' person so you jump to counter 7 rather than waiting 3 hours to get to the normal counters!

I was lucky. I rang DVLA at Ipswich and gave them my SVA date and explained that I only had 30 days to get a reg number or my insurance would be cancelled. They agreed to come out as soon as I informed them that I'd passed SVA. I passed on a Thursday and the following Tuesday the guy from DVLA came out and we completed all the paperwork at my house and I had my reg number and tax disc two days later. I don't understand why every DVLA dept has to be different!

There's no reason not to get the inspection *before* SVA!!!

Saves a load of time once the car's actually SVA'd, like Donut you can be on the road same day as SVA if you go to the office in person!

I passed SVA last Friday, I would have been on the road then but as it happens the kit car lady was off that day. So I went back Monday and job done, took about 30 mins.

We got ours inspected about 2 months before the SVA date.

On the day of the (third) SVA we went to Chadderton, passed the test, drove back home, got the docs, went to Leeds DVLA office, got registered, taxed and an age related plate. On the way home got the plates made locally and was on the road that afternoon.

Consistant aren't they?

They wanted mine SVA'd before they'd look at it. Like I said every office seems to work differently!

Exeter was excellent, SVA and DVLA on the same industrial estate, I have a fully taxed and registered car within 90 minutes of getting my MAC

Update.................DVLA man came this morning, checked the vin, engine number and asked if the parts all came from the donor. After a quick "YES" he said "do you have the reciepts?". He then said "thats ok, I don't need to see them!"
Looks like an age related plate for me!

Just a tip though, if you use a manufacturers chassis i.e. brand new, it counts as 5 points of the 8 required to get an age related plate. As I am the manufacturer, he said it was ok!

Now I just have to wait for my V5 and tax to arrive...........he said about 2 weeks.

My tax disc came from the local DVLA office 2 days are sending in the MAC and cheque, the V5C came from Swansea a couple of weeks later.

Hopefully that will happen for me........I can't wait two weeks!!!!!!!!!

My tax disc would probably have been with me the next day had the dozzy Doris put a stamp or franked? the envelope. Had to wait a week and pay extra for it on the day I was going on holiday .
