Had my car SVA'd last June and taxed it for six months.Got the reminder to tax or sorn and it says i need MOT before new tax.Is this right on a Q plate.I mean its no big deal to MOT but is this another cockup at the DVLA.
No mot for 3 years after sva
Try buying your tax online
Mine is on a Q taxed it for 6 months initially after SVA reminder then said MoT required.Taxed car on line for 12 months, no problems.
not tried online taxing, thought you had to have computerised mot
I WAS TOLD BY READING DVLA THAT A Q PLATE WILL REQUIRE AN MOT AFTER ONE YEAR IF YOU TAX FOR ONE YEAR, AND IF YOU RE TAX WITHIN THE FIRST YEAR IE AFTER SIX MONTHS TAX THEN SORN FOR A MONTH. AGE RELATED PLATES GET THE FULL THREE YEARS. MJA
dont know what there on about
A SVA'd car does not need an Mot for three years
Grey area.
I was told I needed an MOT from the off.

Same happened to me. Defo no MOT for 3 years. I kept local office direct dial number just in case, had to send V5 back and they issued tax themselves.
V5 was returned internally to Swansea to be changed.
I tried to tax online but was blocked due to no MOT registered.
If its on a Q plate , you need to MOT every year, if it's age related plate no MOT for three years.
Mines on a Q plate, had it on the road for two years know, i was surprised about the MOT as well.
Is there anywhere you can get this in writing, as noone in the post offices seem to know anything about...well... anything really.
Would like some formal latter or something so I can wave it under their nose, as I am looking to Tax my car at the beginning of March. It was
registered last January, on an age related plate, so as far as I'm aware, Don't need an MOT
My DVLA bloke told me no MOT for 3 years after SVA, regardless of Q or age related. Personally i would have it MOT'd every year anyway as a
matter of course...

Passing the sva means you've built a new car, even if it gets an age related or Q plate. Any car that's sva needs no MOT for 3 years, just as any other newly built car. However, opinions vary from DVLA office to office.
I wasnt able to tax on-line mid 2006 as it didnt have an MOt registered for the car.
I'm into my third year on the road, not needed MOT to tax yet, although had an argument with post office last year, they disagreed until I
pointed out the 'first used 2004' date on my V5.
MOT this year though
I wrote to them last year...
My letter
As you can see, I was polite, and tried to appear helpful.

I think they're wrong, but it's hard to argue - and it was months before I got that response.
I believe that Jon Beedle got a different response - are you there Jon? If so, could you post a copy of their letter?
