I'm using VDO rev counter and speedo sited outside the exempt steering wheel area. The bezels are not rounded and I think they will fail SVA. Any
thoughts anyone. Perhaps you could also throw an eye at the rocker switches and tell me they will be thrown out too. That will complete a day of deep
deep joy.
Let's be thankful that everyday is not as bad as this one has been!!

And now my pictures haven't come through.
Help please.
I've done something wrong in loading multiple pictures. perhaps there should be a stop after img.
Anyway, back to the tried way. Two seperate posts a picture in each..jpg)
Im using VDO gauges aswell, so i'll have the same problem if they arent compliant
However Caterham use these gauges OK

Is there anything you could wrap around the bezels to make them a bit more rounded? Or a bit of padding around them to smooth them into the dash?
OK I see what you mean about VDO instruments. You could recess into dashboard so they are flush or make a rubber rim for them. I think the rockers are
probably OK.
It looks like you have a hard dash ATM another idea is to pad it with some decent rubber such as a camping mat and wrap vinyl over it, it can all go
away post SVA.
I am working on my dash at the moment. I will have a hard surface and will stuff essential instruments and switches in the safe area and add others
after SVA

I have thought of machining up a ring to fit outside the bezel and putting a 5mm radius on that. I can do it but would prefer not to if the gauges are
ok. As has been said Caterham use them then they should okay.
What do you think about the rocker switches. All originally came from Caterham but before SVA.

I put rubber 'o' rings round my VDO guages for SVA.

They're square profile by the looks of it. If so on a flat dash they'll fail.... As already said I'd either
a) make up a SVA dash with lots of padding
b) temporarily pad the current one (hold it in place with double sided tape- usually v easy to remove afterwards)
c) ? is the speedo in the except area. If so just blank of any unneccesary dials (eg tacho, oil pressure, water temp etc)...
Edited to say- just saw the actual dash picture. Speedo ain't in the exempt area....

Or you could (though it would look a little bit shite), make up a bracket that sits behind the dash and holds the dials totally behind (ie dial
visable through hole intented to hold the dial). As long as you took care of sharp edges on the dashboard itself (some edge piping should do)
you'ld pass.... Lateral thinking
Quick job to correct afterwards too...
I put rubber 'o' rings round my VDO guages form a local plumbers. I think you could even get some from B&Q
Thank you everybody, one and all, who have taken the trouble to reply to my whingeing post.
From what you have said, It looks like there are a number of options open to me, none of which involve scrapping my dashboard and that pleases me no
end because I am actually quite pleased with it.
I will keep you posted.
Thank you once again.
Kind regards
John
We made circles of heatshrink and put them round my mates gauges and that passed. Vacuum cleaner belts work as well.
got the same gages but put mine within the 172 rule.
sombody/ company does a clip over sva compliency ring will have a dig around ont internet and see if i can find them dont remeber them beeing too
expensive.
back soon

You could contact Greenguages who do VDO products and see if they can supply some SVA style bezel.
Or do as I did and recess flat with the dash.
