New roadtax laws after budget - how does that effect locost

Does anyone have any idea how the new roadtax rates will effect us kit car builders?

Will I now be looking at a £300 tax rate for my V8 powered Viento?

I think it only applies to cars that have an emissions rating from new. Anything more than a few years old doesnt have one & they fall into above & below 1600cc catergories. Any kit based on such an older car will work the same way will it not?

See here, my 1600 X-flow is in class TC11

Well that is a relief!

Lets now add a little complication to the matter and say you were using an engine that was 20years old and reconditioned "as new". If everything else was new and you got an 07 plate on the car would that bring it into the new catagories or would it still be classed as an older engine?

Any ideas anyone?

according to the whole of that site, it seems all cars now on the road are registered after 22nd march 2007.

I can't find anything about pricing for my 2.8 BMW from 1995, or my 3ltr V6 pickup i'm building...

22nd March 2007 relates to the start of the new tax rates not the registration date of the vehicle.

I think your BMW will come in class TC11 over 1549cc.

which is £180

excellent, as i thought it was going up to £205

As no ki cars are type approved but SVA registered instead I think you will find they will all fall into either the under 1.6L or over 1.6L.

Great news for those of us that are planning 5.0L V12's lol.
