Strange one this, yesterday went to tax my indy after having it sorn for approx 2 months, bearing in mind it was sva'ed, registered (Q plate) and
firstly taxed for a year in Jan 2006, they said they couldn't issue me with the tax unless i took the car for an MOT test!!! Whats that all
about?? Surely its classed as a new registration?
Has anyone else experienced this and how did you persuade/ bully them in the know! that they are indeed wrong!
cheers Grahame
Try doing it online, less confused human brains involved

Grahame check your log book for the date of first use and the date of registration they should both be the same as SVA if it was registered straight
away.
by the DVLA's own rules you get 3 MOT free years. you will probably find that the log book is incorrectly filled in by DVLA
you will either have to write or phone the DVLA and explain the problem and get an ammended log book or as i had to get an MOT then get the log book
sorted out and apply for a refund of the MOT cost's.
I know of 5 or 6 local 7ers who have had the same problems and all have recieved new log books with corrected details
Rich
after you pass sva do you have to get your car MOT'd? i thought you didnt have to because your car is classed as a new vehicle, surely it
doesn't have to be MOT'd for at least three years??
or am i wrong?
please advise chaps.
Regards Alex
I didn't need to MOT mine after SVA.
Stu
Hey thats good if no MOT for 3 years, I thought it had to be SVA then MOT? great if not
Tried online caber and that didn't work either.
Thanks Rich for the vote of confidence, there must be something amiss on the reg cert as when i registered the car at Sheff dvla they issued me with
the tax disc there and then. Have cheched the reg doc and on special notes section it states sva cert issued 25 01 2006 then inside section 4 B and
B1 again 25 01 2006 so all seems to be in order!! I'll call them and argue t out!!
Thought i'd let you ll know regd the outcome of the mot saga. Phoned DVLA who suggested i called VOSA, phoned VOSA who didn't answer all
day
, cooled down and called DVLA who called my local dvla office at Sheffield; they suggested I went in in person to discuss so did so today.
Women on desk goes on to tell me "well its Q reg you will defunately need a MOT", i persuaded her she was wrong and she called DVLA head
office who in the end sided with me and sanctioned Sheff dvla to give me the tax disc, but went on to say that because we "Q" reg drivers we
are the minority so its just a nuisance we've got to put up with!!!
Job done till next time! Why can't they get it right!!!!
I can't find the referance for it, but I am 100% certain that if you register a car as new on an age related plate then it's 3 years before
it needs an MOT. However if it is first registered on a Q plate then it requires one at it's first anniversary, but apparently these rules are
open to interputation by each DVAL ares. If I find the link I will post it up.
Alan...
For Info ( know it's no use now), But just taxed my car after having the same problems as you and I was told to use the
V112 form from the DVLA website. It's a disclaimer that you do not need an
MOT.
Apparently the new computer system at the DVLA doesn't register Q plates if it's not from a known manufacture!
I took the form in and job jobbed.
