i have just purchased a rolling chassis that comes complete with a pinto installed, my plan is to fit a zetec phase 3 black top, but should i sva it with the pinto and then do the change as emmissions would be much easier, the only thing i would need to buy for the pinto installation would be an exhaust which could be easily resold after sva along with the engine and the bonnet as it has a cut out for the air filter and the exhaust going over the top rail.(which i plan to do anyway as i want one with a bonnet bulge)this would then do away with the need for the cat and lambda sensor etc. or do i just fit the zetec straight away. what would you advise
chris, i can,t believe you said that, you must be going soft in your old age, i bent the sprint r would go well with a pinto and megdooberry bike
carbs

get a 1992 zetec - no cat needed.

Tim, I'd say fit the bike engine to start with. You know thats probably what you're gonna end up with when Tom gets involved
Seriously though, fit the Zetec. OK, the emissions might be more difficult but they're not impossible. Certainly saves the grief of swapping
engines etc after SVA, although I get the impression you like swapping engines after you've built them.
There's only one place for the Pinto.......

I wish i had gone zetec first off, you would definatly loose money with the change over selling the pinto parts.
I've just finished the changeover to a series 1 silvertop with bike carbs and MJ,the engine was free and its still cost me a grand.
If you do go pinto 1st you have to remember with the exhaust other side you will have change loom side to side as well (lights fan horn etc), so give
youreslf plenty of loom to change the termination.
I thought it was going to be an easy/quick turn around
but it can be a bit painfull.
Also make sure the gearbox is as far back as possible, as i had issues with the steering link and oil filter. Not sure if this applies to the series 3
though.
with the oil filter, you can get a much more shallow item from ford ( for the cvh engine ). We had to do this on our zetec to clear the steering column.
Go with the Zetec [having said that I SVAd with a CVH and will be putting a Zetec in this winter, but the CVH is quite similar to the Zetec in many
respects so shouldn't be too hard]

.
Ali blocked 1600 zetec SE has zorst drivers side, i am pretty sure Duratec is drivers too.
the Ford Zetecs have their exh on the passenger side,
Yamaha derived Zetecs ( Setec SE ) - those in 1.25, 1.4 fiestas and 1.6 focus' have the exh on the drivers side, along with all duratecs, except
the Duratec in the ST170, which is actually a Zetec!
how confusing!!!!!
The black tops are drivers side so will be ok.
If u build the pinto with megajolt and bike carbs etc then all youl have to do is swap the engine and adjust the megajolt according. New exhaust and
your up and running. No need to rebuild the zetec..
