Should I, shouldnt I?
flak monkey - 15/5/07 at 08:51 AM

Norwich are now booking into June for SVA tests, so the question is, should I get it booked now? Or wait until after exams? (1st june)

Theres a bit more to do on the car, but hopefully no more than a weeks work.

deffo do it, i find it much easier to get stuff done when you have more to do.

crazy i know but doing my masters while working a 25 hour week at a part time job was much easier than i thought it would be.

iank - 15/5/07 at 08:55 AM

Book it, you can postpone if you need to.

YEEEEESSS!!!

graememk - 15/5/07 at 08:58 AM

might as well do long as the jobs you have are do'able in time.

am i the only one thinking get you exams sorted first, the car can wait a few weeks longer, but if you don't get the exams right, then thats (assuming you don't have resits, like at school) gonna mean you have much longer to wait, or wasted a few years.

I say do your exams first

locoboy - 15/5/07 at 09:12 AM

does it cost you to postpone it?

and whats the minimum notice period for a request to postpone?

Danozeman - 15/5/07 at 09:17 AM

The end of june theyr currently booking in norwich so youl ahve plenty of time..

For info

i just spoke to my test station to chase my own date. (Shrewsbury) Very helpful indeed.

Although my application has not reached them as yet they sais they are into the 1st of June with test dates at the moment.

regards postponing it they require a minimum of 3 working days notice.

Im hoping my tester is as helpful as the lady i just spoke to.

No one's suggesting he do the test before the exams. But booking the test for a couple of weeks after they finish and postponing if the car isn't ready sounds like a plan to me Not booking now means a test in July/Aug and if there is a retest and the DVLA take their time summer will be nearly over before it's on the road

blakep82 - 15/5/07 at 09:43 AM

^ yeah but there's also a weeks work to do before the test...

oh, ok, i see now. do the work after exams?

flak monkey - 15/5/07 at 09:47 AM

Exams start next moday, and finish the 1st june. I have no intention of working on the car before then - besides its 100miles away

I need a minimum of a fortnight after exams to be able to get the car ready and get transport etc sorted for the car.

If they are already booking for the end of june, then i should have plenty of time to do the work.... at least in theory

I would really like the car on the road this summer, and have some enjoyment before the weather deteriorates even more.

Thankfully p'boro DVLA seem well on the ball.

Book Now

I sent off the paper work last week with Norwich as a second choice (chelmsfords closed) looks like i've got a wait.

Book it now, for three weeks after your exams, then you have a deadline to work to, its not in the way of exams, and you won't end up waiting till the end of summer.

VOSA are pretty easy going (in general! ), and will postpone much nearer the time if needs be (3 days notice).

If you do it this way, you should be able to get it DVLA inspected before SVA, during the 3 weeks after your exams, then there is no holdup once you have the MAC!

Go for it, nowt to lose!

Dave J - 15/5/07 at 03:32 PM

Go for it. I had some problems literally days before my SVA (nottingham). I gave them a bell and explained my situation that I may have to cancel after the 3 days notice, therefore in theory have to forfeit my fee. They were however very understanding and told me not to worry and no I wouldn't lose my fee. They know how strung out us kitbuilders are before the test. If they'd had a valium vending machine I would have bled it dry!!.

To make matters worse, I sheared the banjo fitting off my rear brake caliper the day before the test and had 15 mins to get another one before the supplier closed.

Now thats stress!!

Mind you, doing exams and SVA within a couple of weeks of each other would make me twitch.

Go for it. Oh and the best of luck with the exams.

Cheers

Dave
