Hi There
I'm building an MK indy and I've got a quote from Adrian S Flux for build insurance, but they want a chassis number.
I knew I had to make one up for the SVA anyway - what is the correct set up for making the chassis number, number of letters etc?
Many thanks
Ian
SVA won't mind what the number is as long as its 17 characters minimum and alphanumeric,.........
BUT!!!!
you will need to check with your local VRO (DVLA local office) to check that they are ok with you making up your own VIN. They probably will be, but
you need to write to them proposing a VIN and lave them a contact phone number to call you on to confirm.
AF insured mine on the engine number as i didnt have a chassis number at the time.

think it is 9 characters min., 17 max.
seach for it as I'm sure this has come up before, and Iam sure I posted reply but cannot remember due to being distracted by the nun <----
also some letters like Q and I and not allowed.
to hijack your post, I have 0 (xero) and O (uppercase letter oh) in my chassis and hand filled all my forms - how do I know what dval put in?
not that I care as it looks ok on the patper work just curious.
I, the same as flak, insured my indy through flux less than a year ago on just a engine number. The vin number I just made my own up and sent it off
on the sva forms,I didn't check it with dvla. I worked on the premis that if it was in black and white on the mac form then they couldn't
argue with it when I came to register. (maybe I just got lucky with the dvle centre in Leeds though!)
john.
make one 17 characters try to do it the same as they do number plates Ie dont use certain letters etc
then insure it
Sorted!
Many thanks
Ian
